PennDOT closes down workplaces, activities over coronavirus crisis

Image result for department of transportationThe Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is suspending all operations, including construction, except critical and emergency work as coronavirus concerns continue to spread throughout Pennsylvania.
According to a statement from PennDOT sent Monday evening, all driver’s license centers and photo license centers will be closed for two weeks beginning Tuesday. Because of the closures, the following expiration dates will be extended:
  • Driver licenses, photo ID cards and learner’s permits scheduled to expire from March 16, 2020 through March 31, 2020, the expiration date is now extended until April 30, 2020.
  • Vehicle registrations, safety inspections and emissions inspections scheduled to expire from March 16 through March 31, 2020, the expiration date is now extended until April 30, 2020.
  • Persons with Disabilities Parking Placards scheduled to expire from March 16 through March 31, 2020, the expiration date is now extended until April 30, 2020.
  • These closures and extensions are in addition to closures previously reported in counties under quarantine.
    District and county maintenance offices are closed and construction projects are suspended statewide until further notice, PennDOT said. PennDOT crews will be available to perform critical functions and emergency maintenance as needed.
    PennDOT rest areas and welcome centers statewide will be closed effective 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.
    Adjustments to public transportation and rail services have also been made, but PennDOT suggests checking with Amtrak for updated information.
